The Fabric of the Past: Tenements and the Urban Landscape
In the summer of 2025, I did a self-directed residency for three weeks in New York City. I lived in a small, colorful, barely renovated apartment built in the early 1900s for an Italian immigrant family. I explored the city which is embedded in my psyche. I was soothed by the layers of New York and then jarred by the changes. This series is a reclaiming of the urban landscape with organic vertical lines, the bright colors and deep layers of my little apartment, and the muted colors, textures, and lived history of the nearby tenements.
