Abstracting our Bay Lands

Entanglement No. 1 (Tracking the Baylands) Acrylic and Ink on Canvas | 48x36” | 2023

Abstracting our Bay Lands is a solo exhibition at the Rinconada Library in Palo Alto, California. The paintings in this exhibition are based on walks in the nearby Baylands and along the beach and cliffs in Half Moon Bay, California.  The work is deeply influenced by the interplay of the natural and urban landscape. The lines arise from observing bird tracks on the flats during low tide, tangled seaweed washed up on the shore, and markings that appear on asphalt and dirt paths.  The bright colors that appear in the paintings echo the mustard flowers that bloom every spring.
